In a Crowded House, in the Heart of Al-Rimal

Children scream,
the pot boils,
the fan spins uselessly,
and the radio plays news no one wants to hear.
Grandmother dips bread in tea,
Mother yells that no one helps her,
Father reads an old newspaper,
and the boy tries to write a composition
but forgets the difference between past and present.
The house is packed with life,
yet it feels lonely.
As if everyone lives in a small room inside their head,
and no one knocks on the other’s door
