justin’s interlude (this too shall fall)

By | 14 August 2026

one day this too shall be history;
blood sacrifices made
at the altar of the twin gods of
Capital & Profit, enshrined like
deities, intoxicating like
spirits; death and war and factory lines
swept away into the lexicon
of yesterday, mythologized like tales of
sirens, vampires, witches and ghosts;
a new folklore of sort
we will not remember
what it was like to
be enslaved.

one day this too shall be history;
how the pages of textbooks will swallow
their M-60s
their M4 carbines
their M16s
and render them unrecognisible
to people who will know arms
only as something covered in skin,
extended out to hold
someone you
love.

one day this too shall be history;
and after the wars stop and the factory closes and
the borders dissipate and the land is returned, love
too will return and sit amongst us like an old
friend. she will teach you to forget the
violence that has been folded into your skin, that
has crawled into the crevices of your spine, that
has rendered you afraid. one day
together, we will close the door on
this ever haunted past and as it
shuts, yesterday will freeze
over and the ice will grant us
a blank slate.

one day this too shall be history;
like the rule of serfdom
like the feudal lords
like the divine right of kings:

this too shall fall.
