The Tall Man

By | 1 May 2019

the vision has retreated into tamer signs,
but for a moment I saw further;
when the crowds of street
petered into gum gravel
and humble lights lifted up
their irises of glass,

there, an effigy jangled my heart,
stalking at my weary eyes and
summoning last fears.

before its faceless glow
I shuddered in my seat
till the road bowed low;
the glare eclipsed
in angles.

a pole.
a pipe.
and my blood pumping.
