Sunday Picnic

By | 1 February 2021

brown bodies turn black on a spit
skin turning crisp
still alive

laughter from pink mouths
as the eyeballs pop and turn to liquid

pieces cut and dissected for souvenirs
posed pictures taken like they shot good game

white children take in the spectacle
as their mothers lay out their
picnic baskets lined with gingham

and pale little feet covered in soot
play hopscotch till dusk
