Artist at Work

This is the story
of Picasso’s painting
‘Woman in an Armchair’.

To exalt Eva’s sexuality
he portrays her,
proudly and tenderly,
but also monstrously,
in terms of her genitals.

Inserted into the voluptuous
violet of the chair
the soft pink architecture
of her beauty beckons us
into the painting.

Her face is a vertical slit.
Her lap is covered by a chemise
draped immodestly
so as to attract
attention.

When it comes to her
beautiful pointed breasts,
so redolent of tribal sculpture–
he nails them to her body
with another set of nipples.
