Some drivers are like millipedes
Driving very slowly and cautiously,
Making drivers that race
Like centipedes
Furious.
Many drivers are similar to dragonflies,
They swerve from left to right
Without indicating,
Without thinking of safety
And without courtesy.
Other drivers are like lizards,
They are immovable on narrow roads
As they deliver goods,
Intent on their prey, they block
Other road users.
Why can’t they remember
The rules for drivers?
Have they become old
Or do they have amnesia?
Patricia Maria de Souza's first book
Hasnah and the Doll was published in 1980. At the time, most books for children were set in foreign countries and to aid in the understanding and encouraging of reading, she set her stories and poems within a local environment. She attended writing workshops and had exchanges with writers in the Asian-Pacific region and the U.K. and progressed from writing for children to writing for adults. She also wrote travel articles in the local newspaper and had the opportunity to interview writers of children’s books.
