Patricia Maria de Souza

Patricia Maria de Souza's first book Hasnah and the Doll was published in 1980. At the time, most books for children were set in foreign countries and to aid in the understanding and encouraging of reading, she set her stories and poems within a local environment. She attended writing workshops and had exchanges with writers in the Asian-Pacific region and the U.K. and progressed from writing for children to writing for adults. She also wrote travel articles in the local newspaper and had the opportunity to interview writers of children’s books.
