The Morgue I Think the Deader it Gets: Poems by Carody Culver

Special parties

A woman wearies of the same kind of biscuits
A woman longs for the children to be at school
A woman welcomes new ideas to pleasantly surprise her evening bridge club
when she happens to have the leisure.

A woman wearies of the old way of serving chicken
A woman longs for the cake she learned to make for her first grown-up party
A woman welcomes new ideas to interfere with the habits of the family
when she happens to have the leisure.

A woman wearies of the impossible burden of entertaining
A woman longs to prepare for her parties alone
A woman welcomes new worlds to conquer
when she happens to have the leisure.

But in a house of many servants
everyone is made uncomfortable.
To steal the hours needed for other things
A flushed and worried hostess should entertain simply.

A man would say that good food is all that is necessary.
We hope you will find the suggestions helpful.
So much the better!
