John Newton

John Newton grew up on a sheep farm in the South Island. He did a PhD in Melbourne the early 1990s, then taught for a number of years at the University of Canterbury. He now lives on Waiheke Island, near Auckland. The Double Rainbow: James K. Baxter, Ngāti Hau and the Jerusalem Commune appeared in 2009, and his second volume of verse, Lives of the Poets, in 2010. Family Songbook, his third collection, will be published by Victoria University Press in 2013.
