Barbara Hostalek

Barbara Hostalek is a playwright who was born on Larrakia Country (Darwin) and now calls Noongar boodjar home. With maternal connections to Yawuru and Gija language groups of Broome and the East Kimberleys. She has been writing short plays as a member of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s Writer’s Group - Cracked (2015), Banned (2016), Go Fish (2017), Turtle Pool (2018), Thirst (2019), Perpetuity (2020) and Prickly (2021). Cracked was produced by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company in 2019. Poetry drives her creative process as a member of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s Which Way Poetry group. Her poem Numbfounded (2021) was recently awarded second prize in the Jack Davis Memorial category for the Blak Ink Poetry Contest 2021 sponsored by Australians for Native Title and Reconciliatin (ANTaR) WA.
