After Wislawa Szymborska

I like the morning-sound of ground coffee beans.
I like the symphony of leaves in light rain.
I like the delight of an unexpected friend around the corner.
I like watching expressions over opening lunchboxes.

I like looking back.
I like windows with views.
I like silhouettes, but not shadows.
I like speaking to people older than me, except when they are children.
I like humanity’s complexity, but not its cunning.
I like when the few are led by the many,
but not when many impose upon a few.

I like the in-betweens.
I like being left more than being right.
I like when someone admits they don’t know the answer,
but not when they say there is only one answer.
