Porch Haiku

By and | 5 December 2019

On the porch
the neighbor waves, I wave back—
every goddam day.

On the porch,
the dog I named Saddam
wags its tail.

On the porch
the hajji sees me come home
drunk.

On the porch
the Fourth of July—
busy killing mosquitoes.

On the porch
I swat a fly, the neighbor
rolls grape leaves.
