I could not eat grapefruit for a while and
this only became an issue when I could not eat
grapefruit. It’s just uncomfortable ya know?
Like how those long strips of bark dangle
backwards off the trees in Milnthorpe.
I don’t like rules, or things I cannot touch
(museums are not fun). Also
the taste of grapefruit is acidic and
makes me wince.
They are not like oranges which
taste sticky like baked cotton sheets and
ocean. And the way grapefruit
hang on their trees just looks painful,
drooping and twisting the branches like a
garlic plait. Anyway, now that I can
eat grapefruit I really do not want one and
I know that I have to let
the memory of you go
but I really don’t want to.
Allowing myself to forget feels like
letting myself off the hook, and,
I have gotten used to the feeling
of being dragged for
a while now.
