On The Wind

Celestial Weavers

Moon chases sun, day follows night
over and over, tumbling in skies
of darkness and light, leaving
a trail of stars in their wake.

Mother Sun transforms into
a spider – radiating golden light.
Father Moon spider spins
a silvery parachute for two.

They find a suitable terra landing
on a tree that can’t object
as it’s too dry – from roots to branches.
Without a word, Sun Spider gets to work.

From her ancient spinnerets that carry
eons of knowing, being, doing
she releases a strong golden silk
to anchor herself to a tree branch.

Leaping, trusting the wind will carry her
this small golden mother of all mothers
attaches the bridge thread to another branch
before repeating this movement in reverse.

As she flies on the wind, backwards and forwards
her golden aura catches the sun’s attention.
She is of the sun:
creator, nurturer, wise woman, old one.
The final radial-spoke completes the main framework.
Her silvery companion now adds the weft to her warp.
Using sticky silver silk strands he weaves in and out
from the outside in, to complete their homely trap.

The couple’s spectacular orb-web shines
in the sunlight. Her strong golden warp
providing a good foundation
for his wefts of sticky silver silk.

She nods when he adds a tangled obstacle course,
making it easier for them to hunt and gather.
When it comes time to lay her eggs
he will create an egg sac to protect their bubs.

The tree shivers as tiny feet tickle its bark trunk.
Admiring the web of light now nestled
in its branches, it promises to forever protect
these spidery incarnations of Sun and Moon.
