Katia Kapovich

Katia Kapovich is the author of nine Russian collections and of two volumes of English verse, Gogol in Rome and Cossacks and Bandits, both from Salt. Her English language poetry has appeared in the London Review of Books, Poetry, The New Republic, Harvard Review, The Independent, The Common, Jacket, and numerous other periodicals, as well as in several anthologies including Best American Poetry 2007 and Poetry 180 (Random House). She won the literary Russian Prize twice: for her short fiction (2013) and her poetry (2015).

They say this world …

They say this world is full of life, life, life … 
But what I see is mostly slime, slime, slime … 
Forests of voiceless and obedient women, men … 
They’ll make a noise but leave into the cold night’s neon. …
