J. Marahuyo

J. Marahuyo is a Filipino poet currently studying Community Services at TAFE. She lives in Sydney and currently resides on Wangal land. One of her poems has been Highly Commended in Short Stories Unlimited’s poetry competition which will be published late 2022, another has been Commended for Kyogle’s Poetry Competition and she was selected to take part in the WestWords Academy mentorship program and Express Media’s Toolkits Lite: Poetry program for 2022. Her work explores themes of identity, mental health and capturing moments while trying to be as whimsical as possible.

What even are we?

I remember calling you Donkey Kong because it matched your initials. And, you called me “Ate” (ah-teh) – big sister in tagalog because our culture is big on respect, big on our titles for those older, but I’m not sure …
