A signal sometimes reaches

Godzilla departs

An obsidian giant spent
serene, nuclear,
passes over the horizon.

In his wake the port
cautiously revives.
The great cranes

pink and white
unload squat freighters.
The lattice of their spinning
booms like lifting legs,

laced in pointe slippers.
Cargo rises and falls,
leaps and bends.

All these could heft
a colossal Elephant’s Foot
atop the burning world.

Instead, their dance
calls him back,
stage lights blink on.
