Snow moon in summer

By | 6 November 2026

The snow
in your part of the world
was cushion soft
leaf-dotted yellow
with that attention
to the negative space – I like
you sent a photo

That snow has gone
icepick hard
shiny and black
hidden to catch
to make slide and crash
into snow bank
reserves
creating distance
between neighbours
over the hill
and fa fa away
and I feel it
I tell you to –
mind that cold

Here the sun burns
new shoots
down
as we count
the bushfires flaring
too early
in the season
further up
the floods
break banks
and one district
over
next door farmers
drown in dust
wishing for rain
no one seems to know
when the wind will change
we just know
that it will.
