Eliza Victoria

Eliza Victoria is an award-winning Filipino author. Her books include the poetry collection What Comes After (University of the Philippines Press) and the novel Ascension (Penguin Random House Southeast Asia). She has won prizes in the Philippines’ top literary awards, including the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature and the National Book Award for Best Novel. She holds degrees in creative writing and literature from the University of Sydney and Western Sydney University.

A language for grief: Writing horror in fiction and poetry

I write and read between and across genres, but horror has always been my first love. Much has been written about the appeal and utility of horror, often combining, as sociologist and film critic Andrew Tudor attests, analysis of the texts themselves as well as the genre’s consumers.
