A Final Sanctuary
It seems obvious, therefore, that the areas most suitable for the creation of a sanctuary are those that lie adjacent to the road which has given them access. The Thylacine never is likely to be so common again as to become a menace to sheep-owners. Its unusual physical structure and habits render it unique, to Science, and every effort should be directed towards conserving the remnant of its numbers in the region that it now occupies. Zoological authorities in other States are anxious to obtain specimens with the object of breeding the animal in captivity, and as special facilities are said to exist that would ensure the success of such an experiment, it might be worth allowing a pair or two to be exported. If we are not willing to part with any of the animals, under these conditions, then it behoves us to see that the Thylacine has real and effective protection in its native state, and is permitted to live unmolested in the region to which it has finally been driven.
