Origin Marle: Fabric of dreams | 2022

Origin Marle is a series of micro-sites that explore the character of Marle, a newly awakened AI in the human world. In ‘Fabric of dreams’, Marle discovers the ability to see, in a machine sense. The artworks are accompanied by visualisations of popular object detection neural networks. When the neural network is shown specific subjects, different sets of neurons are activated or turned off. This can be visualised as beautiful abstract patterns. Neural networks are famously incomprehensible on the inside, so this is one of the few visualisations we do have to peek into the mind of a neural network.

The Origin Collective was commissioned by the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art for an online exhibition.
