It is with considerable shame and embarrassment that we must officially reveal the true identities of some of the contributors to our twenty-third issue, Children of Malley. It seems that the wool has been pulled over both our eyes and that some of the poems in this issue were not written by relations of Ern Malley, blood or otherwise, but were in fact composed and sent to us by a variety of contemporary Australian poets. We shudder at the thought of any further revelations and the damage that they may inflict upon Cordite's reputation. Let the revelations begin …
While it may seem obvious in hindsight, Ouyang Malley (whose poem The Kingsbury Tales: The Shirt is featured in the issue) is actually Ouyang Yu.
The poem Ernmalleyite, ascribed to Boult Upright Malley, was in fact written by Patrick Jones.
We're also deeply ashamed to admit that we didn't pick Nick Whittock as the author of The Marketing of Blonde Tips, originally attributed to Warne Malley.
Now we're getting into difficult territory. We were incredibly surprised and saddened to learn that Ern Malley Jr, who sent us five poems including the bizarrely-titled Gnostic Iron Bird Jism, is in fact John Kinsella. That'll learn us.
Finally (we wish), despite our initial glee at receiving ten new poems by Ern Malley himself, we are humbled and disappointed to announce that three of these poems – namely Escape Clause, A Fool To Care and Prospect of KB as a Young Critic – were in fact written by Ken Bolton.
Our apologies to everyone who has read and enjoyed these pieces under the false impression that they were created by Ern Malley, his progeny, or any of his clones. If you believe we have made similar errors with the other poems in this issue, please leave a comment below.
Shame Cordite, shame.
