Cordite's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions (SATSQ)

27 April 2008

Mad's Snappy Answers to Stupid QuestionsThose of us who grew up the the 1980s may remember how central Mad magazine was to teenage culture, from the back cover fold-in gags (riffed on nicely by Beck in one of his film clips, forget which one) to Spy vs Spy and, yes, you guessed it, MAD's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions (SATSQ).

For those who weren't there, or didn't care for MAD or Al Jaffee's juvenile sense of humour (what's wrong with you, anyway?) these questions usually took the form of inanities (for instance “Are you sitting there?”, “Did you catch that fish?” or “Table for how many?”), the responses to which were sometimes dumb and, occasionally, coffee-spittingly good, like milk going up the nose good.

Well, in honour of SATSQ, several years ago we decided to introduce a similar feature to the Cordite site. The first person we sent our list of (okay, very stupid) questions to was poet Ouyang Yu. Check out his responses here. Despite the stunning success of that first interview (oh and the triumph that was our interview with the online avatar Cyberbarbie), the idea didn't really catch on.

Until now.

We're proud to announce that in the coming weeks, we'll be resurrecting this stroke of genius from its electronic grave, with a series of interviews so snappy, so stupid, so questionable, you'll be begging us to either a) scrap the whole idea or b) ask you some questions as well!

Stay tuned!
