Reviews Policy

Cordite seeks entertaining, informative and snappy reviews of current or recent poetry books, journals and CDs. Reviewers may choose to review a book they already own or have received; otherwise, we have provided a list of available titles for review below. If you would like to receive one of these titles for the purposes of a review, please contact us by email, indicating which titles you would prefer to review, your reasons for reviewing that title and two examples of your recent review writing.

Interested reviewers are encouraged to visit our Reviews page to familiarise themselves with the kinds of poetry criticism we publish. In short, we prefer discursive and insightful reviews that tell the reader something interesting or provocative about the title being reviewed, rather than overly subjective and judgmental 'opinion pieces' that pass a verdict on a work's merits. We prefer reviews that can stand on their own as engaging and thought-provoking arguments; and not 'customer product ratings'.

The word length for a review of a single title is between 1000-1500 words; and 1500-2000 words for a review of more than one title. Please note the following formatting guidelines:

    We accept only email submissions of review articles;

    Each review submission should include the full publication details of the reviewed item;

    Include at least two block quotations/citations from the item in the body of the review; and

    Be sure also to include a brief bio and your contact details in the email.
